C and D: Set of two poi made of ribbonwood, undecorated with natural fibre colours. Twisted cord attached to each.

Sandal woven from harakeke (flax). Two whenu (strands) are overlaid for reinforcement and woven using the takirua pattern. Braided tapiki (finish) along the heel ends with long harakeke (70mm) added as a cushioning element adhered via looping and threading through wefts. Three ply whiri (braid) woven with muka (flax fibre) is threaded in eight loops around the outside of the sandal and is laced with and additional 3 ply whiri muka. A looped loosely woven muka cord formed using the miro (rolled) technique form the back of sandal at the rear.

Complete waka huia, oval shaped. The waka huia is hollowed out except for the short sides, where a small ledge remains that the lid rests on. The lid is decorated with rauponga whakarare motif in parallel stripes along its length. The lid features a hole in centre for cord attachment, with a small amount of cord in the perforation. On the top of the lid this cord is dyed red, with a small amount hanging out underneath. Base is carved with interlocking rauru spirals occupying most of area with two smaller double spirals in between and raupongo whakarare filling the remaining spaces. Ends have koruru. One faces upwards with a laterally pierced perforation behind for suspension. The other faces downwards, with a laterally pierced perforation behind for suspension. Both have paua shell inlay eyes. On the long sides there are two paua shell inlay circles.

Complete composite fishhook consisting of two curved pieces of paua shell lashed together with muka. Additional muka lashings at the head, attached to a twisted muka cord. Modern metal nail through lashings at base.

Kete Muka woven from natural and yellow dyed muka (flax fiber). Yellow possibly raurekau bark in origin. Woven from bottom to top using whatu aho patahi (single-pair weft-twining). The body of this kete is unusually decorated as double whenu (warp strands) appear to have been used, with one strand left loose to give the body of this kete a decorated ruffled effect. Yellow and natural muka have been miro (twined) to create two cords that have been added to act as handles. Frill work woven outer edge in yellow and natural muka has been sewn to the left and right edges.

Complete flax kete with kiwi feather decoration. Warps held in place with double pair twine. Each row 1.0 - 1.5cm apart; 19 in all. Feathers attached at every third warp on alternate weft rows. Loosely twisted flax fibre handles on each side. Cast on using thrum technique and cast off from inside by placing first pair of warps to back of second pair, second pair to back of third pair, etc. Held by double pair twine. Warps then frayed to form fringe on outside around top.

Complete pounamu pendant. Dark green in colour with high translucency. Cross section is lenticular. Surface is ground. J-shaped, with a curved and rounded distal end. Proximal end is also rounded, with a braided muka cord through the suspension hole.

Complete kahawai lure. Curved paua shell shank with serrations along edges. Muka lashings and twisted cord at head and base. Straight bone point with internal barb and external notch. Point and lashings at base appear to be burnt.

Complete kahu huruhuru with kereru feather, flax fibre and wool. Manufactured with whatu aho rua technique (two-pair weft-twining). The first and the last whenu along the left and right edges are pink and blue wool thread twisted together. Kereru feather attached singly (a aho/2) in green and white vertical stripes. The kurupatu (fringe collar) is made with white feather. There are no ties. There is a small area of repair along the top at one edge.

Small flax kete with twisted handle. Woven in a twill pattern from unscraped flax with no additional decoration. Natural mid-yellow colour. No base seam; cast off by folding to internal side and inserting through other flax strands.

Complete pair of poi. Both oblong with a squared base, one slightly larger than the other. Raupo has been wrapped around the poi longitudinally; very wide strips of plant material used. Held together at top of poi with fibre. There is a length of twisted fibre cord emerging from the top, knotted at end.

Five pronged eel fork (matarau tune). Outside tines are longer than the internal tines. The tines are pointed at distal end and notched at proximal end so tines can be bound and secured. Heavily bound at top with plain harakeke/flax with woven chord extending from centre tie point. Tines evenly spaced with plain harakeke at middle.

Fragment of kete woven from undyed harakeke (flax) using the takitahi (over one, under one) pattern. Remains of three ply whiri (braid) finish at the top.

Remains of woven harakeke (flax) listed as a fragment of a sandal. Appears to be the remains of a whiri (braid) technique formed by looping doubled whenu (strands).

Complete pounamu pendant. Attached to pounamu toggle D40.539 by a brown three-play rope. Dark green bowenite/tangiwai variety, chatoyant and translucent. Surface is ground. Cross section is lenticular. Seven notches on the proximal edge and a suspension hole drilled from both sides. One side edge is straight, and the other is curved; somewhat squared off at the distal end. Pendant is bevelled on both sides.

Pounamu toggle. Attached to D40.538 by a brown three-ply rope. Light green tahutahi variety; source believed to be Cascade Plateau area. Surface is ground. Triangular shape. Perforation through the centre of the toggle, drilled from both sides. One side has two bevels running lengthwise, demarcated by lines.

Brown Kete Muka possibly dyed using tanekaha bark and a white ash mordant. Short fringe, made with double pair twining, attached to side edges and base on front and back. Warps held together with double pair twining. Patterned in regular manner. Alternate rows of cross stitch (based on eight warp unit) and alternate verticle stripes natural and brown. No handles.

Complete flax kete with plaited handle. Woven in a twilled over-one, under-one pattern with unscraped flax. Natural mid-yellow colour with some mid-red and mid-brown in handle. Internal base commencement; cast off with internal horizontal plait. Top edge serrated in large triangular shape. Patterned at the base with three horizontal double rows of holes, created by changing the direction of individual flax strands.

Frament of maro. The fibre is woven together, with two whenu (strands) forming diagonal ornamental lines.

Complete fishing line and sinker. The line is plaited flax bound with unworked flax. The sinker is complete, with a transverse lashing mark around the circumference. The connecting rod is a naturally formed Y section, with flax bound to each of the lengths of wood.
