Baby changing tables can be found in toilets on the Ground Floor and Level 1.
The Museum does not have a designated breastfeeding space, but you are welcome to make use of the couches in our atriums. We would also be happy to show you to more private areas of the Museum where you might feel more comfortable.
-
Some of our galleries have low lighting levels to preserve the collection. This may make it difficult to read object labels and signage if you have limited vision.
If you would like a special tour with a focus on touchable items, please contact the Information Desk via [email protected] or 03 477 7777 to discuss your needs before your visit
-
Our café is operated independently by Precinct Food. If you have any particular requirements, we recommend contacting Precinct directly to discuss your needs.

The Museum is typically at its most quiet before 11am and after 3pm.
Weekends and school holidays are generally much busier than regular weekdays.
We regularly schedule 'Quiet Hours' with reduced lighting and noise—these are advertised on our events page.

There is no visitor car park at the Museum, but metered parking is available on the surrounding streets from $3.5/hour.
We have two mobility parking spaces available on a first come, first served basis. They are located in front of the Museum, to the right of the main entrance, and can be accessed via Cumberland Street. Please display your mobility permit when using them.
Our staff can also arrange for a taxi to collect you right outside the main Museum entrance.
-
Dogs that have been trained and accredited by one of the organisations listed here can enter the Museum with the person they are assisting.
Please bring the ID you were issued and make sure your dog is wearing the coat that identifies it as a certified disability assist dog.

We offer support workers and carers free admission to our paid spaces when accompanying a client. Please speak with our staff when purchasing tickets.

There are toilets on the Ground Floor and in the atrium spaces on Level 1 and Level 2.
The Ground Floor and Level 1 both have a toilet that can accommodate a wheelchair.

Most of Tūhura can be accessed by wheelchair, mobility scooter, and pram. Unfortunately, our stairwell displays and some areas of our Tropical Forest and Animal Attic cannot be.
To reach Levels 1 – 3, use the lift next to the toilets on the Ground Floor
To reach Level 4, use the lift located on Level 2 by the stairs to the Animal Attic
All our lifts will fit a standard manual wheelchair and most electric wheelchairs.
Book a wheelchair:
If you need to use our free wheelchair, just ask at the Information Desk.
We recommend booking the wheelchair ahead of your visit to ensure it will be available. This can be done in person at the Information Desk, or via phone or email.
