Mahi whakairo
Incomplete adze - cutting edge extant. Asymmetrical Ground with flaking on edge. Butt not present. Bevel not present. Cutting edge sharp, straight and smooth.
Broken, (Appears to be missing the proper left side, the proper right side remains pretty much complete, but damaged) very roughly rectangular The surface is ground, but significantly chipped. There appears to be no differentiation between the blade and the butt. The Bevel is curved and slightly concave, and continuous with the blade. The cutting edge appears sharp but the vast majority of it has been chipped away.
Complete adze. Cross-section is rectangular. Surface is ground Undifferentiated between butt and blade. Bevel is continuous with blade. Cutting edge is sharp and straight.
Complete stone chisel Cross-section is rectangle. The surface is ground with heavy flaking on the front. The butt is undifferentiated. The bevel is demarcated by a curved line. Cutting edge is heavily chipped.
Complete adze. Stone. Grey and brown. Cross-section is rectangular. Suface is ground, some flaking on butt. Undifferentiated between butt and blade, proper right side of front butt has been reduced. Bevel is continuous with blade. Cutting edge is sharp and curved, chipped on proper right and left sides of cutting edge. Otago written on back.
Incomplete adze - blade extant. Oval Ground with flaked sides and break. Butt not present. Bevel continuous with blade, tapering down to cutting edge which is straight, rough, blunt and chipped.
Complete unfinished adze. Brown stone. Quadrangular cross-section. The surface is bruised and flaked with ground areas on the blade. There is a circular flake scar on the front of the butt. There is no distinction between the butt and the blade. The sides of the blade taper in from the cutting edge to the poll. The bevel is continuous with the blade and demarcated only on the proper right side by an oblique ridge. The cutting edge curved and sharp.
Complete chisel Oval The surface is ground with some flakes/chips. The bevel is curved and distinguishable from the blade by a faint ridge. The cutting edge is flat and sharp.
Incomplete greenstone gouge, blade and bevel end only. The cross-section is circular. The surface is ground with some flake scars. The bevel is demarcated by two straight lines that meet in the middle. The cutting edge is curved and chipped.
Unfinished chisel. Greenstone. The cross-section is quadrangular. The surface is mostly ground with bruising at the butt and some flake scars. There is no distinction between the butt. It is unclear which side is the back, as both sides have a rough bevel shape demarcated by an irregular line. The cutting edge is oblique, straight and sharp.
Complete Asymmetrical/Trapezoidal Front of blade is mostly bruised with large flake scars present. Back of blade is also bruised with large flake scars. Small and minor flake scars around bevel portion. No differentiation between blade and butt. Bevel is continuous on blade, however flake scars prevent observer from seeing this properly. Cutting edge is very rounded and slightly sharp.
Complete adze. Stone. Dark grey. Cross-section is lenticular. Surface is ground, flaked at poll. Minor differentiation between butt and blade, with sides reduced. Bevel is demarcated by a curved line, and is concave. Cutting edge is sharp and curved.
