Waka huia

Complete waka huia made of matai. Lenticular shape. Dark brown and black in colour. The exterior side of the box has female figures carved at each end; heads protrude off of each end and bodies are carved below on the outside of the box. Both the outer sides of the box and lid are divided into quadrants and feature a rauponga (ridge and triangular notch) pattern. Lid is flat underneath and rounded on top. Lid joins box with tongue and groove joint at each end.
