Collection Record

Adze, Toki

Broken adze, lower blade and bevel end only. Black stone. Quadrangular cross-section. The surface is mostly ground with bruising around the broken end on the front of the blade, and several small flake scars. There is a curved line of bruising on the front of the blade that might have indicated the base of the butt. The bevel is smooth and continuous with the blade in the centre. There are light and asymmetrical ridges on each side of the bevel. The cutting edge is cured, sharp and has a few chips.
