Adze, Toki

Complete unfinished adze. Black phonolite. The cross-section is trapezoidal with the back narrower than the front. The surface is mostly ground with bruising on the sides of the butt and on the poll. The butt is distinguished from the blade by the bruised sides and a reduction in the stone on the sides. The bevel is demarcated by a curved ridge. The cutting edge is oblique and sharp with some chips.
