Adze, Toki

Complete adze. Pounamu. Mid green. Cross-section of butt is oval, cross-section of blade is rectangular. Surface is ground, with bruising on back and on butt. Small fragment missing from proper right front blade. Major differentiation between butt and blade, front heavily reduced forming shoulder, rising again so the butt appears to have a grooved grip. Sides of butt taper towards poll. Bevel is continuous with blade, cutting edge is sharp and curved, a few small chips along cutting edge. "Moeraki" written on back.
