Te Kohinga Taoka Māori
Collection Record
Adze, Toki
Complete adze. The cross section is asymmetrical. The proper right side is approximately plano-convex with the back flattened. The proper left side is approximately trapezoidal with the back narrower then the front. The surface is predominantly flaked, with evidence of a previously ground surface remaining on the front. The bevel is partially ground. There is a rusty discolouration on the front of the butt. The butt is rough-edged, asymmetrical and unfinished. It is demarcated by a reduction if the sides and back from the shoulder to the poll. The bevel is demarcated by a line and the differential treatment of the surface. The cutting edge is jagged and blunt, and curved asymmetric due to chipping along the proper right side.
