Bailer, Tata

Complete tatā (canoe bailer). Dark brown wood. Handle is straight and projects over the scoop, with a face carving and perforation at the butt. Proximal end of the bailer has a koruru figure with paua eyes in the centre and two manaia on either side. A koru pattern radiates around both sides of the rim. Scoop is elongated, tapering toward the pouring edge, which has two large chips. A large crack runs from the pouring edge to the midpoint. The interior and exterior surfaces of the scoop are smooth and undecorated.
