Collection Record

Adze, Toki

Complete adze. The cross section is rectangular. The surface is predominantly ground with some flaking on the back of the butt. There are fine transverse striations on the sides of the butt. There are green-brown spots resembling mould or mildew on the surface of the front. The butt is differentiated by a reduction of the sides at the shoulder, and a reduction of the back half way between the shoulder and the poll. The bevel is continuous with the blade. The cutting edge is asymmetrically curved, with the proper left side of the blade shorter than the right. The proper left corner is chipped. The edge is otherwise sharp.
