Waka huia
Complete waka huia made of totara. Elongated oval in shape and half-circular in cross section. Dark red and brown in colour. A human figure projects off at each end, one male and one female. Both figures have paua inset eyes with geometric carvings. Female figure has glass beads at the back of the head to form another set of eyes. Male figure has paua inset eyes at the back of the head and another on the manaia figure depicted on its proper left arm. Exterior of box and lid are both carved with a curved rauponga (ridge and triangular notch) and rauru (double spiral) pattern. Interior is smooth and undecorated.
