Adze, Toki

Complete adze. Black stone. Surface is bruised on the front of the butt, flaked and ground on the front of the blade, and ground on the back of the adze. Cross-section is trapezoidal, with the back narrower than the front. Major differentiation between butt and blade; sides of the butt and front of the adze are reduced to form shoulders and a large ridge; back of butt is also reduced with a curved indentation. Bevel is demarcated by a line. Cutting edge is not present due to flaking. "Pareora" inscription on front and back.
