Collection Record

Adze, Toki

Complete adze. The cross section of the blade is rectangular. The cross section of the butt is approximately plano-convex with the back flattened. The surface is ground. There is a textured gold mark on the proper left side near the butt which resembles a fingerprint. The butt is differentiated by a reduction of the front at the shoulder, and a transition from rectangular to plano-convex cross section. There are three, transverse, finger shaped valleys across the front of the butt. The bevel is continuous with the blade. The cutting edge is straight but asymmetrical with the proper left side of the blade shorter than the proper right side. The edge is blunt.
