Adze, Toki
Complete adze. Light brown and dark greenstone. The cross-section is quadrangular. The surface is ground with bruising around the butt and flaking at the poll. There are shoulders and a reduction in the stone at the sides of the butt. The bevel is smooth and continuous with the blade. The cutting edge is straight and chipped. There are two paper labels adhered to the back of the blade: "Dr. Hocken's Collection" and "Found at Milford Sound when driving piles for Sutherland's house. Probably as old as Cap Cook's house."
