letter, 08/03/1935, H D Skinner to W J Elvy, Thanks for letter from the 1st and Mr Roadley's pendant which is of great interest, have written to Roadley telling him the pendant is of a common class and is represented by a complete necklace at the Southland Museum in whale ivory and a necklace in human bone from D'Urville Island in the Auckland Museum. Besides the two necklaces there are single pieces including a bone one in Otago Museum from Otago Heads and a stone one in Auckland Museum from Whangarei. More detail included in this letter than the one to Roadley, his pendant is rather more specialised than the other ones mentioned. Pendants from the northern part of the South Island tend to run to size; Mr F. V. Knapp of Nelson has a stone one, unfinished at least twice the size of Roadley's. A cast and a drawing is being made of this example, hope to publish it in an appendix to his (Skinner) papers on Maori amulets, the final of which has gone to press. Will send on these papers, remind Skinner if he forgets
