letter, 18/02/1935, Major A H Carrington, Hertfordshire. to H D Skinner, I am busy writing a book of which those articles are a summary. Mr Elvy told me you had located the site of a battle Ika-a-Whaturoa in a small bay 10 mile north of Kaikoura between Ngaitahu and Ngatimamoe. I do not believe there was any such battle in the South Island but the site is that of battle known as Tete-whai which has been variously placed from Wairau to Clarence. Mrs Beaton gave details of a battle South of Waipapa similar to Stack of the battle of Tete-whai.
