letter, 01/10/1934, Judge H. F. Ayson to H. D. Skinner, Received letter from 27th of June, owes apologies for not getting in touch sooner. Has been much more difficult than initially thought to secure the double canoe, has tried Mitiaro, Atiu and Mauke with no success. Some of the old canoes are still used for fishing, hopes to secure one. A few articles have been put aside, delayed sending in hopes of securing additional items. At Atiu last year, Ayson purchased a fine stone adze, but it was delivered to Mr. Smith who he couldn't ask for it back from as he had thought it was a gift, he's expecting to pick something up on a trip by schooner next month, and will send what he has on then. Has enclosed a chart of the Cook Islands and maps of Rarotonga, Atiu and Mangaia. Has nothing of Aitutaki and Mauke except the survey maps, but can have copies made free of charge. Ayson may be in Dunedin again early next year and will call in.
