letter, 10/01/1933, Kenneth Bernice Bishop Museum, Honolulu to Harry (H D Skinner) and Eva, Thanks Skinner for his letter from the 10th of December. Mentions that Burrows and MacGregory have returned. Kenneth corrects his error of a manuscript that was said to be 20,000 words but was in fact 26,000. This manuscript or MSS was translated into English after originally being printed in the Uvean language then later into French with the aid of native speakers. The manuscript was written by Father Henqual who was alive in 1924. This manuscript is not mentioned in the Catholic Mission bibliography titled - Essai de bibliographie des Missions Maristes en Oceanic Occidentale, Paris, 1932. Adze from the Nassau-island type which was brought back by Burrows and Wallis, another similar adze was secured except this one has no lugs and is much thinner. Both adzes were collected from Manihiki by Buck. MacGragory brings one of the thin lug-less tanged adzes from the Tokelau's where he was told these adzes were their own form distinguishable from the Samoan adzes. Kenneth theorises that is this adze had developed in Eastern Polynesia, it would indicate that the Tokelau islander are a "back-wash" instead of a group dropped on an eastern migration. MacGregory collected one other adze made of basalt and of Samoan typically. Lists of prices paid to Nordmann for adzes and other artefacts - $250 for 115 adzes, 63 pounders and 10 tapa mallets. Discusses more problems with Stimson and his theories.
