letter, 06/07/1932, E.? Maxwell? Opunake to H D Skinner, Discovery by Sir Geo Syme (surgeon) of a human leg bone. Hand drawn sketch and X for location. Suggests this a moa hunters cave as located by a "trap" area of swamp. Site was intact, now expose by weather and bones rapidly deteriorating. Interior lots of moa bone and some human. Umu in middle. Some later Maori tattoo instruments. Moa bones sent to Mr Drew at Wanganui museum, multiple species. Sir G took human bone with him, intending to write a paper for Society in Melbourne.
