Letter, 03/12/1938, Mr Teviotdale to H D Skinner, Four letters by Teviotdale from Papatowai and three photographs. Letter one: Mr Honsey has left due to hard work and poor returns. Best pieces found are human bone, greenstone adze, sinker and fish hook. Evidence of Moa eaten on site. Had visit from member of the Scenic Board who was helpful. Looking to find cave near Kantigi (sp?). Letter two: little found, evidence of oven and shell refuse at Para Para. Only other bones were small amount of dog and a fragment of human skull. At Tukurua got an adze. Will visit Truman's, Miss Ruby showed me tiki and two adze. Her brother found things in Westhaven. Young Rile would not allow digging. Letter three; Went to Tukurua, some had dug before me. Found mostly European material. Identified large midden. Mr Wilkins has a remarkable fine adze of grey argillite. Will collect katipo spiders for Mrs Marples. Letter four; tide exposed promising are where I found 10 adze and chisels. Describes layers of material where artifacts found. Moa bone and egg shell also found.
