Letter, 24/05/1938, H D Skinner to T A G Strickling, Believes rock drawings in Canterbury / Otago are all of one time period and do not show any change in culture from beginning to end. Those that show Moa deal with an earlier time in colonisation and those that show whales belong to the 19c. Most are about food supply. The ones in in Ley's cave are more ancient, they reference Taniwha and are stylistically similar to ones in Indonesia. [faint copy]
