Letter, 23/08/1938, H D Skinner to W J Phillipps, Dominion Museum, Thanks for paper on Maori carving. Discussion of pataka in Moturoa St. Would like to try and trace its location in England. Request for photograph of pare. Skinner states he saw prow and stern of canoe, as noted in paper, in Berlin. Carved with steel tools and in excellent repair. Suggests made late 60's, not 1857 as given by Germans. Type of canoe is of much interest and deserves full documentation.
