Letter, 28/07/1926, G H Barber to Dr W B Benham, Suggest bush worms do not leave castings because after a bush fire there is no evidence of castings during the regeneration phase. Most colonies of worms are found in the vicinity of a garden or orchard, or around a home stead. Suggest the worms are not natural to the area, and have been brought in on the soil surround new plants such as fruit tree or tomatoes plants. Conclude that native worms either do not cast or have become extinct due to change in habitat. Suggestions about worm burrow and surface dwelling habits, effects of light on colouration and impact of fires and cattle.
