Tūhura Otago Museum has some of the best collections in the world. A world-class Pasifika collection, and the largest southern Māori collection held anywhere, our Museum, established when Dunedin was one of the most important ports in the Pacific, is more than you imagine.
We also have a fascinating Nature gallery, with examples of the creatures that surround us on the peninsula, and those that are no more. If you want to see the nature of the region, in a place that is accessible and warm, this gallery is perfect. We have the largest articulated moa collection in the world, New Zealand's largest fossil, and galleries that are fascinating insights into the complex ecosystems that surround us.
You will also see our most famous and beloved gallery – Animal Attic – a museum within a museum. Filled with hundreds of examples of Victorian taxidermy, the gallery tells the story of the theory of evolution and gives a taste of museums of old.
Delight in the Museum's hidden corners, waiting to be explored. Led by knowledgeable and highly qualified guides, get ready to be amazed by the incredible diversity of objects and stories waiting to be discovered.
