Hīkoi o te Taoka | March of the Treasures
Hīkoi o te Taoka | March of the Treasures is a powerful public art in action exhibition celebrating one of Aotearoa's most precious and endangered species, the hoiho (yellow-eyed penguin).
A spectacular procession of larger-than-life hoiho statues has arrived at Tūhura Otago Museum, each uniquely designed by talented local artists. These striking artworks transform the rare penguin into bold creative statements and a call to action against extinction.
The exhibition raises awareness and vital funding to support conservation efforts to protect and preserve the hoiho for future generations.
Featured artists include:
Frank Gordon
Ginny Deavoll
KORYU
Shane Walker
Claire Rye
Allia King
Aroha Novak
Emma Millburn
Bruce Mahalski
Nic Dempster
Together their artworks create a powerful visual hīkoi through the Museum, an art in action protest against extinction, bringing the hoiho to life through art and highlighting the urgent need to protect one of Aotearoa's most treasured taoka.
