Taoka Puoro
Length of bone, possibly intended for flute. Cut at one end but not smoothed. The other end has latitudinal cutting marks, but has not been cut through.
Broken flute, all remaining except a small fragment at the proximal end. Both ends are cut and smoothed (except where fragment is missing). There are two perforations along the top. There are two cracks major cracks at the distal end, and the flute has been slightly crushed in form.
Complete flute. There are four perforations, three along the top of the flute, and one at the end on the side. The entire surface is decorated with striations that wrap around the flute going in both directions that create a crosshatched pattern.
Broken flute, small fragment remaining. The surface is covered in striations, some diagonal, some vertical.
Broken flute, small fragment remaining. There is a single perforation close to one end. The surface is covered in striations in a diagonal pattern. Previously broken, there is a visible repair through the centre.
Broken flute, fragment missing from upper half. There is one complete perforation and one partial perforation at the broken edge.
Mostly complete flute, small fragments missing from either end. There are three perforations. Several repairs visible.
Broken flute, fragment from one end remaining. There are two partial perforations. Striations decorate the surface, some vertical lines at the finished end, and towards the broken end there are diagonal striations.
Broken flute, small fragment remaining. There is a single perforation. The surface has been drawn on with a thin marker in a variety of patterns.
Broken flute, small fragment remaining. There are two partial perforations. The surface of the fragment is covered in striations in a cross-hatched pattern.
Unfinished flute. This flute is finished at both ends, but has no perforations.
Complete wooden pūtōrino. Bound at each end with harakeke strands; discolouration on the surface appears to indicate that there once were additional binding sites. Single mouth perforation on one side with rudimentary eyes carved onto surface and very two shallow koru radiating from centre below mouth. An unevenly set cross-shaped mark sits on top face above eyes. Surface has been varnished in the past but now worn. Two cracks running longitudinally on both sides with tape residue running along one.
