Adze, Toki
Complete adze. Cross-section is triangular, with apex to front. Apex widens out towards blade end, making cross-section trapezoidal with front narrower to back. The blade is ground towards the bevel and cutting edge, towards the butt and poll the surface is more bruised, with some flaking visible. There is major differentiation between the butt and the blade, the front is reduced. The sides also taper towards the poll. The bevel is demarcated by a line and a change from ground stone to bruised stone on the back of the blade. The cutting edge is sharp, curved and narrow with very slight chipping. On front in black ink; Brighton Dist [rest of text removed]. On back in black ink; Brighton District.
