Adze, Toki

Complete adze. Light green pounamu. Surface is ground and bruised. Cross-section is asymmetrical. Reduction on the front of blade, running at an angle from the proper left shoulder to the poll on the proper right side. Proper left side of the butt is also angled tapered toward the poll. Proper right side of the adze is reduced from the poll to the bevel on the proper right side. Bevel is demarcated by a line. Cutting edge is oblique and sharp, with a flake missing from proper right side. "Akaroa." inscription on front.
