Adze, Toki
Complete unfinished adze. Dark brown stone. Trapezoidal cross-section with the back narrower than the front. The surface is mostly bruised with ground areas on the blade. There is major differentiation between the butt and the blade, with a rounded shoulder on the front of the blade and a reduction in the stone on the front of the butt. The poll is oblique and flaked. The bevel is smooth and continuous with the blade. The cutting edge is curved and chipped. There is a remnant of a sticker adhered to the back of the blade, and "Orepuki [illegible year]" and "15" written on the front. [A detached circular sticker with "Orepuki by Mr Fortune 1899" written on it was sitting under this adze and may have come from it.]
