Adze, Toki

Complete unfinished adze. Grey and black stone. Oval cross-section. The surface is mostly ground on the front and back of the blade, bruised on the sides and has flake scars at the poll. There is a thick line of bruising on the front at the base of the butt. The sides of the blade taper in from the cutting edge towards the poll. The bevel is demarcated by bruised edges on the sides and a subtle curved line halfway up the blade. The cutting edge is sharp and curved with a couple of chips. "Stewart Island" is written in pencil on the proper left back.
