One lug on front of butt. Bevel demarcated by an angled line. Cutting edge is curved and sharp with small chip missing from front left.

Roughout Lenticular cross-section. Flaked and bruised surface There is no differentiation between the blade and the butt, just a very slight narrowing up the full length of the blade The cutting edge is nearly symmetrical and slightly curved. The bevel is irregular and lightly ground

Complete Trapezoidal cross-section with the back narrower than the front. Ground with bruising on the sides and on the butt. Flake scars at cutting edge and butt The front and sides of the butt are reduced and the surface is bruised. There is no distinction between the butt and the blade on the back. The bevel is demarcated by ridges on its sides and at the chin. The cutting edge is almost symmetrical and has flake scars on the front and back

Complete adze. Cross-section is rectangular. Surface is ground. Major differentiation between blade and butt, sides heavily reduced. Bevel is continuous with blade and is distinctly concave. Cutting edge is sharp and curved.

Complete adze. Cross-section of blade is rectangular. Cross-section of butt is oval. Surface is ground, with some bruising on butt and sides. Minor differentiation between butt and blade. Front and sides slightly reduced. Bevel continuous with blade. Cutting edge is sharp and curved.

Complete adze. Light brown and dark greenstone. The cross-section is quadrangular. The surface is ground with bruising around the butt and flaking at the poll. There are shoulders and a reduction in the stone at the sides of the butt. The bevel is smooth and continuous with the blade. The cutting edge is straight and chipped. There are two paper labels adhered to the back of the blade: "Dr. Hocken's Collection" and "Found at Milford Sound when driving piles for Sutherland's house. Probably as old as Cap Cook's house."

Incomplete adze. Blade remaining. Trapezoidal with back narrower than front. Surface is ground with bruising and flaking on edges. Butt not present. Bevel is demarcated by curved lines running up from each corner to meet in a horizontal line across blade. Cutting edge is smooth and sharp, with very minor chipping and a very slight curve.

Complete adze. Plano-convex, front flattened. Surface is ground, with bruising on the sides and flaking on the front right proper corner Butt has minor differentiation - the left side proper has been reduced. Bevel is demarcated with a line. Cutting edge is sharp, rounded and smooth with some flaking to the edge.

Complete unfinished adze. Mottled greenstone. The cross-section is asymmetrical. The surface is mostly ground with bruising and flake scars. There is no distinction between the butt and the blade. The sides of the blade taper in towards the poll. The bevel is demarcated by a ridge on the proper left side and a flake scar on the right. The cutting edge is oblique, sharp and has small chips.

Complete adze. Cross-section is oval. Surface is mostly ground. Small flake on the proper left side of the cutting edge. Flaked on the sides of the butt, including the poll. Minor differentiation between butt and blade, sides reduced to form small shoulder. Sides taper towards poll. Bevel is demarcated by a line, blade is sharp and curved. Small flake missing on proper left edge of cutting edge.

Complete adze. Cross-section is rectangular. Surface is mostly flaked. Almost entirely ground on the back half of the blade. Two large flakes missing on front half of blade. Cutting edge is heavily chipped. Minor differentiation between butt and blade, sides slightly reduced to form a small shoulder. Sides taper towards poll. Bevel is continuous with blade, blade is blunt and straight, chipped.

Complete file, front reduced at one end. The other end tapers to a point.
