letter, 06/05/1935, T W Downes (Wanganui River Trust Domain Board) to H D Skinner, Downes thanks Skinner for his help, and mentions his intent to come visit. He then talks about Skinner having been misinformed of the ownership of a 'hei-tiki' 'with the hand in the mouth' by Barnes(?), stating it belongs to 'Broadhead, watchmakers avenue' who would likely sell it, and suggests Skinner contact Broadhead directly if he wishes to purchase it. Downes says he will also bring his own 'little' hei tiki with him when he visits Skinner as it is 'different to any of [Skinner's]'. He states 'the Tata' (canoe bailers) are now in his possession after being handed over by 'the P.T' that morning, and that he will bring them in his bag. He will also bring 'the Fijian club' as a parcel. Downes mentions an item (korohete?) at Pepeita(?) which he offered to buy for 5 pounds but was asked to pay 10 pounds for, stating the family who own it have fallen on hard times and would with 'every probability' take 5 pounds for it now if offered. Downes states he will not be able to make an offer for purchase before his trip south but can undertake it on his return. Downes finally mentions he met 'Crawford', who was 'delighted' with Skinner's danification(?) and said to thank him for showing him round. Downes closes the letter in saying he has produced 50 slides which are 'a bit thin but [...] passable' as he had to make them himself.
