The goddess Hathor, in the form of a cow, was worshipped as the nurse to the kings of Egypt. In the form of a joyous and smiling young woman she was revered as the goddess of happiness, dancing and music. She also had an important role in funerary texts, providing spiritual nourishment for the soul of the dead.
