Neolithic figurines statuettes, mostly of women were placed in tombs to provide the owner with a companion in the afterlife. The dead who were buried in a sleeping position with elbows and knees drawn together were also supplied with pottery food containers, jewellery and other goods thought to be useful in the afterlife.
