We are sure the Morioris of the Chathams knew how to cut greenstone. Most pieces in the Chathams come from Maori conquerors but two or three pieces go back to Moriori times. Evidence for moa extinction especially from Watkin and Stack were that they were extinct not less than 150 years before 1850. Work with the spade bears this out.
