Otago University Museum correspondence
letter, 21/06/1933, Dr. Benham to Mr. Gourlay, Now completed most of the identification of the species sent, time has been filled up by class and museum work, but found intervals to study the materials from Stephen's Island. Five tubes were received and the rest returned. A. contains one Octochaetus thomasi Beddard and one small introduced Lumbricu rubellus Hoffmeister. B. One Maoridrilus tetragonurus Michaelsen. C. Four of the same species, one which Benham has kept, with them are small worms, Lumbrious rubellus and a grey worm which is being investigated as it seems to be new. D. Two M. tetragonurus. E. The slug is Athoracophorus schauinslandi Plate, and with them some grey worms and L rubellus. Can find some accounts of earthworms of Stephen's Island by myself in Transactions, volume 51. M. tatragonurus was described long ago in a German paper and has been studied since by another German zoologist. Ought to find the faecal pellets of Tuatara of interest. Has no duplicate for Mexico. Will let him know when Wetas are needed, but likely second week of July at an amount of 80.
