Our Far from Frozen and Science of Medicines showcases received funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to tour Samoa, engaging with students on both Upolu and Savai'i to help foster STEM as a career pathway and get students engaged in climate science and the science of medicine. We saw over 800 students on this tour and also had the opportunity to build relationships with the IMAGINE Science Centre in Samoa.
We brought virtual reality headsets to impart a 360-degree immersive experience, which was very well received! On VR we showed the bespoke video curated for the Far from Frozen showcase, which highlights work being done in Antarctica to further climate science and to help understand climate change.
We brought many interactives along, including the Antarctica and Us Activation, the extreme weather 4D modelling activation, an Antarctic tent and gear scientists would need in Antarctica, and plenty of examples of cool new tech that is being developed to help mitigate climate change.
Dr Greg Walker from the University of Otago also came to Samoa to run the Science of Medicines showcase. This showcase helped students learn about routes of administration, emulsions and suspensions, mātauraka Māori medicines, antibiotic resistance, and how vaccines work.
We were extremely grateful to have the support of the Imagine Science Samoa team, who helped us deliver these showcases and assisted with any necessary translation. We hope to continue to strengthen our relationship with Imagine Science Samoa and are super excited to have engaged with students of all ages across Samoa! Learn more at imaginesamoa.org.
