The goddess Bastet, part cat and part woman was the daughter of Re, the sun-god. She represented the power of the sun to ripen crops. Cats were sacred to Bastet and many bronze cats were dedicated to her at her temple on the Nile delta. The chief seat of her worship was at Bustatie, the modern Tell Basta

Complete rei puta (pendant made from whale ivory). Surface is weathered and possibly water-rolled. Proximal edge has a worn chip in the centre, presumably where the perforation for suspension was. Sides taper to a rounded point at the distal end. Face carving with forehead, eyes, nose, and mouth depicted on the front of the distal end.

Frament of maro. The fibre is woven together, with two whenu (strands) forming diagonal ornamental lines.

Complete flax kete with plaited handle. Woven in a twilled over-one, under-one pattern with unscraped flax. Natural mid-yellow colour with some mid-red and mid-brown in handle. Internal base commencement; cast off with internal horizontal plait. Top edge serrated in large triangular shape. Patterned at the base with three horizontal double rows of holes, created by changing the direction of individual flax strands.

Dentalium shell necklace consisting of 41 individual rings, each with 3-4 grooves around the exterior surface.

Complete rei puta (pendant made of whale ivory). Surface has been worked smooth. Perforation at the proximal end, drilled from both sides. Natural indentation from root cavity on the back side. Rounded at the proximal end and tapered to a point at the distal end. Front distal end has carved facial features, with brow ridges and eyes indicated. Small drill mark represents nose and three others indicate mouth, but distal edge has chipped off.

Complete fishing line and sinker. The line is plaited flax bound with unworked flax. The sinker is complete, with a transverse lashing mark around the circumference. The connecting rod is a naturally formed Y section, with flax bound to each of the lengths of wood.

Silcrete drill point. Mid-grey colour.

Broken tab of complete fishhook. Point, tip and portion of centre broken off. Seven drill holes evident and large shank knob present at the head.

Complete chisel. Cross-section is circular, back slightly flattened. Surface is ground, except at proximal end which is bruised. Bevel is demarcated by a line and concave. Cutting edge is sharp and curved.

Complete slate pendant in cutter shape. The proximal end has notches along the top and sides, with a groove around the upper end. There is a perforation through the centre of the groove. The sides taper out below the groove to the distal cutting edge. The bottom edge is chipped.

Broken pendant in adze form. Projection with groove around it at the proximal end for suspension. Distal end is broken off. Surface is partially ground, with large portions of bruising. There is a sawing mark down one side.

Worked pounamu, possible unfinished pendant. Circular cross-section and ground surface. The distal end comes to a sharp point. The proximal end flattens out, and there is a slight drill mark on one side.
