letter, 09/10/1935, Louis Vangioni to H.D.Skinner, Note paper is receipt of items returned from museum. Skull box or coffin found at Sandy Bay near little Akaroa and old Pa site - Panau. Land owner / farmer Mr Waghorn, removed stones blocking cave entrance, inside skeleton and box. Details re box measurement and shape. Contents of box were skull, mat, greenstone pendant and large rib painted with shark oil. When know to local maori that the cave was entered a family of Gilberts complained to Native Minister for disturbance. Waghorn lodged items with Canterbury Museum.
