Taoka whakarākei
Piece of worked moa bone, possibly the head of a comb. Rounded at the proximal end and broken at the distal end. Surface is smooth with polishing marks evident. Cross section is concave.
Small ring of dentalium shell, worn as a necklace bead. Three grooves around the sides.
Broken shell pendant, distal end not present. Tapering toward a knob at the proximal end.
Complete pounamu pendant. Dark green kahurangi variety with white flaws and some feather flakes. Circular with a ground surface and edges. Suspension hole drilled from both sides at the proximal end.
Light green pounamu/nephrite hei tiki, inanga variety. Pointed head which is turned to left. Scarf evident on rear of head with one attempted perforation and another successfully drilled adjacent through centre of forehead. Pointed tongue sits over centre of lower lip. Sealing wax fills both eyes. Head large in relation to body. Breasts evident with elbows highlighted and hands in light relief sitting on thighs. Joined at legs.
Complete pounamu pendant. Dark green tangiwai variety. Surface is ground. Cross section is square. Straight suspension hole at the proximal end. Proximal and distal edges are squared off.
Complete whale ivory pendant. Curved with suspension hole and small notch at proximal end.
Complete pounamu pendant. Dark green and mid-green. Surface is ground. Rectangular shape with rounded edges. Perforated in the centre from two sides.
Complete pounamu pendant. Mid-green with high translucency. Surface is ground. J-shaped, curved and rounded at the distal end. Proximal end is squared off with a skewed suspension hole drilled from both sides.
Piece of worked pounamu, possibly a pendant or a fishhook point. Curved to a point, the tip of which is broken off. Reduced at the proximal end.
Pounamu/Nephrite pendant. Inanga variety, green-coloured stone has many lighter green/pale green patches in it. The outline on this piece is roughly that of a thin pointed leaf. Perforation is hourglass in shape and drilled from both sides. Proximal end has been rounded off. Cross section is rectangular.
Complete pounamu/nephrite pendant. Blue-green inanga variety, chatoyant with low translucency. Evidence of oxidised rind around perimeter. Surface has been ground smooth. Tapers toward the proximal end, which is slightly squared off and has a suspension hole drilled from both sides. Distal end is curved.
