Rectangular shaped piece of wood. Very dark in colour and almost peat like in nature - may have been in swamp. Old label reads, "Fragment of post from the old Kaiapoi Pa which was captured by Te Rauparaha."

Broken adze, part of blade remaining. Dark green and light brown pounamu. Surface is ground and bruised. Cross-section is asymmetrical, with prominent sawing marks on one side. There is a lack of discernible features; the butt, bevel, and cutting edge are not present. "Kaiapoi Pa." inscription
