Rakahau te Kohika
Taoka Māori
Piece of dark red worked stone, use unknown. Previously broken in three pieces and glued back together. Surface is ground smooth on one side and on some edges.
Broken porcellanite blade, unknown portion remaining. Mid grey in colour. Flake scars present across both surfaces. Unifacial retouch present on both lateral margins of one side.
Mahi whakairo
Complete unfinished adze. Dark brown stone. Quadrangular cross-section. The surface is bruised and ground. There is no distinction between the butt and the blade apart from a little bruising around the butt. The bevel is smooth and continuous with the blade. The cutting edge is curved and asymmetrical.
Complete adze Trapezoidal cross-section. Front of blade has slight bruising and flake scars with bottom portion slightly ground. Back of blade also has some bruising, flake scars and grounding. Undifferentiated between blade and butt. Bevel is continuous with the blade and is slightly curved with cutting edge appearing sharp.
Whakarite kai
Complete sinker with shallow transverse lashing groove.
Complete adze. Stone. Dark grey. Cross-section of blade is rectangular. Cross-section of butt is triangular, with apex to front. Surface is ground, with some flaking at shoulder and poll. Major differentiation between butt and blade, front reduced forming a shoulder, butt continues to slope down towards poll, sides tapering. Bevel is continuous with blade, cutting edge is sharp and curved, concave. Laura Station Hokonui written on front.
Broken adze (blade remaining). Stone. Green. Cross-section is semi-circular, front flattened. Surface is mostly bruised, ground on front, with some flake scars on back and sides. Butt not present. Bevel is continuous with blade, cutting edge is blunt and curved. Laura Station Hokonui written on front.
Complete adze Trapezoidal with front narrower than back The surface is mostly ground with a few flake scars. There is a chip on the proper right. No differentiation between butt and blade. Bevel is demarcated with a small ridge, cutting edge is sharp, curved and has some small chips.
