Bevel is continuous with the blade. Cutting edge is flaked and unfinished. "Clutha District" inscription on back. Attached tag reads "Unfinished Maori Axe Clutha District" on one side and "W.L.R." on the other.

Complete stone adze. The cross section is trapezoidal with front narrower than back. The surface is ground on the bevel and lower blade. There is minor demarcation between the blade and butt with some reduction of the back and sides. The upper blade, butt and poll are all flaked and bruised. The bevel is continuous with the blade. The cutting edge is straight and blunt.

Broken adze (butt remaining). Cross-section is oval. Surface is bruised. Minor differentiation between butt and blade, sides reduced to form shoulder. Blade not present.

A wooden tube, described as a mouthpiece for blowing up kelp poha. Made of light brown rimu or patete. Both ends cut flush. Surface is smooth and undecorated.

Incomplete adze, blade and bevel end only. Trapezoidal cross-section with the back narrower than the front. The surface is ground, bruised and flaked. There is a reduction in the stone on the front of the butt just before the broken edge. The bevel is made from flake scars and ends in a blunt irregular cutting edge. There is a partially removed piece of paper on the back that reads: "From Lake Wanak- given by Rukitap- - Port Molyneux" and another on the proper right side of the blade that reads: "Dr Hocken's Collection."

Complete adze. The cross-section is rectangular. The surface is bruised. There is major differentiation between the butt and blade as both sides have raised shoulders and then taper towards the poll. The bevel is demarcated by a ridge at the chin and by a change in the bruising. The cutting edge is curved and blunt.

Complete adze. The cross section at the bevel is trapezoidal with the back narrower than the front. The cross section at the shoulder is lenticular. The cross section of the butt is circular. The surface of the lower half (bevel end) is predominantly ground. The surface of the sides, and the upper half (poll end) are predominantly bruised. There is a small rectangular piece of paper with writing adhered to the back. There are remnants of adhered paper on the back of the butt. There is a dark, circular stain in the centre of the back. The butt is differentiated by a reduction of the sides at the shoulder and the transition from lenticular to circular cross section. The bevel is continuous with the blade. The cutting edge is convex, chipped and blunt.

Flaked surface Blade tapers in slightly towards the butt but no differentiation The bevel is concave and is clearly demarcated by ridges at the sides and a minor curved ridge at the chin. The cutting edge is asymmetrical, longer on the proper left side.

Surface of blade is ground, surface of butt is mostly bruised, with ground areas on back and some light flaking at the poll. Minor differentiation between butt and blade, front reduced forming shoulder. Bevel is continuous with blade, cutting edge is sharp and curved. Small sticker on back; "382". Undifferentiated between butt and blade, sides taper towards poll. Bevel continuous with blade, cutting edge is blunt and straight, heavily chipped or possibly unfinished. Small sticker on front; "388". Pounawea written on front.
